Tis the season to get everything done. The holiday season, regardless of how you spend it, is notoriously busy and often stressful for the average person trying to keep up with the hustle and bustle of everyday life while preparing for the holiday. Amongst the Christmas shopping, festivities and frantic wrapping, there is something that you are going to want to consider to add to you already full to-do list. And yes, it is totally worth it: an insurance annual review.
Why an insurance annual review now?
You’ve already got enough on your plate, so why would you possibly want to add in an annual insurance review on top of it all? There are a lot of perks to doing it now, and they’ll save you stress and time in the new year.
Big purchases & gifts
The holiday season is popular for expensive presents such as jewelry, furs, artwork, new cars and more. These special gifts are all going to require a change in your insurance policy to make sure that they are properly protected in case of a robbery or a fire, flood, etc. So, what better time to take look at your policy than when you are adding new big-ticket items?
Renovations or upgrades
Since Christmas marks the end of the year, this time of year is also a great one to take a look back on the year itself and how your home may have changed since it started. Did you do any home renovations or upgrades that need to be addressed in your insurance? This includes new appliances and remodeling as well. These should all be documented on your home policy.
Changes in status
It’s pretty impressive how much can change in a year. When you are looking back at the year in terms of insurance, you’ll also want to take a moment and consider changes in your status: did you get married or divorced? Do you have a new addition to your household? Did someone pass away or move out? These are all changes to consider and update in your paperwork as well. On that same note, you should make sure that all of your beneficiary and related information is up to date as well with all of those changes in mind. Heaven forbid you pass and your ex-spouse gets your estate over your current spouse!
Business shifts
Not all insurance reviews have to do with your home and loved ones. You’ll want to take a look at your insurance policy for your business as well and adjust any details that are out of date, need to be added, increased/decreased or completely dropped.
There is so much that goes on in our lives on a daily basis that meeting with an insurance agent to go over what you’ve got, what needs to change, and what is okay is just a good idea in general. There’s no point in going into the new year not really sure of what you’ve got available to do, and the holiday season is a great time of year to make sure that you’ve got all of your ducks in a row.
